Germa Adan in the Sandwell Valley
The singer, fiddle, guitar and ukulele player Germa Adan was born in Haiti, grew up in Florida and now lives in the UK. She says the RSPB reserve in the Sandwell Valley has been her place of calm during the lockdowns – where she goes to contemplate and recharge. As the sounds of early spring surround us, she sings a Haitian folk song; her personal take on the English folk song “The Lark In The Morning”; a new piece written in response to the death of George Floyd in the USA (which reveals “the open wound” caused by police brutality against black people, she says); and a song called “Going Home” (“home is where I am right now”). Germa is a rising star on the folk scene with a beguiling and original style. Join us for a thought provoking and uplifting walk.
